Frequently Asked Questions
Find answers to commonly asked questions about Campus Kindergarten
What are your hours of operation?
Campus Kindergarten’s operating hours are 7.50am-5.30pm, Monday to Friday. We are open 48 weeks a year, excluding public holidays. We close for 4 weeks over the Christmas vacation period.
What age can my child attend Campus Kindergarten?
We accept children from 2.5 years of age until school age.
Does my child have to be toilet trained prior to attending Campus Kindergarten?
No. Children do not need to be toilet trained before starting at Campus Kindergarten.
We understand that every child develops at their own pace. Our educators will work in partnership with you to begin or continue toilet training when your child is developmentally ready.
We provide a supportive, respectful, and encouraging environment to help children build confidence and independence throughout this important milestone.
What are your fees?
Our fees are $130 per day.
How do I put my child on the waitlist?
Please fill out our waitlist form and send it to us. Once we receive this, we will be in touch to organise a tour of our kindergarten.
Do I need to pack food for my child?
Each day, you will need to provide your child with either three clearly labelled separate containers (for morning tea, lunch, and afternoon tea) or one bento-style lunch box with separate sections.
Please also provide a water bottle for your child each day.
In accordance with food safety regulations, we are not permitted to reheat children’s food. All food must be suitable to be eaten cold and will be stored in the classroom refrigerator or if you prefer that your child’s food is not eaten cold or refrigerated, it must be packed in a thermos and kept next to the fridge.
At Campus Kindergarten, we promote healthy eating and encourage “nude food” (waste-free lunch options) to support children’s health and environmental sustainability. We recommend including healthy choices such as fruit, vegetables, yoghurt, cheese, crackers, noodles, rice, and other nutritious options.
Children’s water bottles are available for them at all times.
What do I need to bring each day for my child?
Please ensure your child brings the following items to Kindergarten each day:
· A wide-brim hat
· 2 or more change of clothes (weather appropriate)
· Nappies (if your child is still in nappies)
· Food for morning tea, lunch, and afternoon tea
o Three clearly labelled separate containers or one bento-style lunch box
· A water bottle
· A cot-sized fitted sheet
· A top sheet
Please make sure all items are clearly labelled with your child’s name.
Is there a high turnover of staff at Campus Kindergarten?
Campus Kindergarten has a long and proud history within the St Lucia and University of Queensland community. We are fortunate to have a very low staff turnover rate, reflecting the strong relationships and positive culture within our team.
This demonstrates stability, experience, and continuity of care for children and families.
What are the qualifications of staff in my child’s room?
We are proud to provide a highly qualified team in every room.
Each room is staffed by:
· Two Early Childhood Teachers (ECTs) who hold university degrees in Early Childhood Education.
· Diploma-qualified educators and Certificate III educators with advanced training in early childhood learning and care.
We consistently maintain educator-to-child ratios at all times, ensuring children receive attentive supervision, meaningful learning experiences, and the highest standard of care.
Is there any Government subsidy to help with fees?
You may be eligible for a Child Care Subsidy. See link below https://www.servicesaustralia.gov.au/individuals/services/centrelink/child-care-subsidy/how-claim
Do you only accept families who work or study at the University of Queensland?
No. While we are proudly connected to the University of Queensland, we welcome families from the broader Brisbane community.
Enrolment is open to all families, regardless of whether they work or study at the University. We value diversity and are proud to serve a wide range of families from across the community.
Do you offer a formal kindergarten program that prepares children for school?
Yes, Campus Kindergarten offers a formal, play-based kindergarten program that is free for eligible children. The program provides 15 hours per week over 40 weeks a year and is delivered by qualified early childhood teachers following the Queensland Kindergarten Learning Guideline. Children are generally eligible if they turn 4 years old by 30 June in the year they attend, and families can access the free hours regardless of income. While the educational component is fully funded, any additional care outside the 15 hours may incur a fee.
