Our Rhythms of the Day

Banksia/Cottonwood (Kindergarten) Rooms

A clear and predictable routine fosters a sense of security, trust and empowerment for young children. From the beginning of the year, we will work together with the children to establish a routine that works best for us. In doing so, we aim to co-develop a predictable and safe environment in which children can develop their sense of belonging and engage in deep learning.

Recognising that our program is designed to foster children’s holistic learning and development, we value all aspects of our daily routine. In doing so our routine promotes children’s social, emotional, physical and cognitive learning and development. Some key features of our routine include:
Open-ended Play Sessions
During the day, we provide children with extended periods of uninterrupted time to engage in play. These sessions are supported with carefully selected resources and materials, aligned with the Queensland Kindergarten Learning Guidelines and children’s interests, to promote the development of their identity, social skills, language, and wellbeing. Activities include construction play, embedded numeracy and literacy games, and creative art experiences, allowing children to explore, experiment, and develop skills in a meaningful, hands-on way.
Group learning experiences
Children come together as a learning community to share stories, engage in music and movement, play games or research shared topics of interest.
Sleep and Rest routines
Children are provided with opportunities for sleep or quiet rest depending on individual needs
