Our Natural Environment
Campus Kindergarten is blessed to be positioned in a quiet, leafy pocket of the University of Qld.
Our outdoor play spaces offer unparalleled opportunities for children to explore the natural world and develop strong physical skills to support their engagement with learning. We have 2 outdoor spaces; our front yard is our kindergarten space with a large cottonwood tree for climbing, a purpose built bike track, and large spaces for running and exploring. Our back yard is our pre-kindergarten space with a purpose built fort for climbing and play and plenty of green space to support movement.
Both yards are filled with trees, plants, rocks and an abundance of wildlife that fosters curiosity, exploration, and a deep connection to the natural world.
Our Programs
Our programs are play-based and nature-focused, creating meaningful opportunities for children to explore, discover, and learn through hands-on experiences. We place a strong emphasis on social and emotional wellbeing, supporting children to build confidence, resilience, and positive relationships.
Each program is thoughtfully designed around the individual child, considering their strengths, support needs, family connections, and community and cultural background. Guided by the Early Years Learning Framework (EYLF) and the Queensland Kindergarten Learning Guideline (QKLG), we foster meaningful learning that supports lifelong growth and development.
Cultural & Community Engagement
Culture and community form a meaningful foundation at Campus Kindergarten. We are proud to be part of a highly culturally diverse community, with children, families, and educators representing many cultures, languages, traditions, and lived experiences from across the globe. Diversity is celebrated, respected, and embedded within our everyday practices, creating an inclusive environment where all children and families feel a strong sense of belonging and connection.
Throughout the year, we acknowledge and celebrate a range of culturally significant events and community initiatives including Lunar New Year, Harmony Week, National Reconciliation Week, and NAIDOC Week. These celebrations provide meaningful opportunities for children to develop respect for diversity, cultural awareness, inclusion, and understanding of the world around them. Through stories, music, creative experiences, food, language, and shared family contributions, children are supported to recognise and value both their own identities and the identities of others.
Our strong community connections are an important part of our program and contribute to enriching children’s learning experiences in authentic and engaging ways. We value our ongoing partnership with The University of Queensland, who support our kindergarten program through initiatives such as complimentary speech assessments for children in their year before school. These partnerships strengthen early intervention, collaboration, and support for children’s individual learning and developmental needs.
Excursions & Incursions
Incursions and excursions are a valued part of our educational program and provide children with meaningful opportunities to extend their learning through hands-on, engaging, and interactive experiences. These experiences are thoughtfully planned to complement children’s interests, support current learning outcomes, and strengthen connections with the wider community.
We enjoy a variety of incursions throughout the year that bring music, storytelling, culture, science, and performance into our learning environment. Experiences such as the Renata Jayne Multicultural Show and Evergreen Children’s Theatre Rainforest and Ocean Shows provide children with opportunities to explore diversity, sustainability, creativity, and environmental awareness in engaging and memorable ways.
Children also benefit from visits by local community organisations including Vets in the Village and St Lucia Dental, helping them develop knowledge and understanding of health, wellbeing, animal care, and community services through real-life experiences and interactions.
Excursions within the The University of Queensland grounds are also an important part of our program. Walking on Country experiences and Oval Play events encourage children to engage with their environment, build confidence in community settings, develop physical skills, and strengthen their connection to nature and place. These experiences support children’s curiosity, sense of identity, and understanding of the world around them while promoting active participation and collaborative learning.
